Trivia: two Nobel Peace Prize winners are also owners of Terry Ward artwork : Al Gore and Jimmy Carter. Ward’s current (2008 and later) artwork is all on 1 ft
x 6.5 ft wooden panels For their size, the panels are lightweight, usually weighing just 11 pounds. The style is some manner of ironic Post-Modern Brut Pop Abstract-Expressionism. Where Jackson Pollack's dripwork action painting left off, Ward expands with new effects like shading on some drips or use of gravity effects to marbleize and commingle colors. Use of collage, industrial stencils, found objects, spray effects, and occasional gunfire is typical. Ward sometimes includes cut-down portions of realistic paintings in the nonobjective action paintings. NOT

mixed media action painting on wood. (aka Difficulty of Remaining Neutral ) It was a small pleasure to keep adding color while also keeping it a picute which "was gray" ---without being truly gray. Viewers are welcome to add political subtexts to the title; all of the paintings are open to viewer-interpretation. MINIATURE Omnidirectional
mixed media painting on wood. (aka Rail Safe ) The only MINIATURE painting in the new style ---made specially for the "Single Fare" exhibit in NYC organized by Jean-Pierre Roy and Michael Kagan. All paintings had to be on used farecards ---these are, but chopped and mounted to wood blocks. I wanted to involve actual subway trains ---no easy thing to do without risk of injury or authorities-pouncing. The metal objects are indeed train-impact-flattened and bound to each other by that heavy embossing. The tintype lady image from my Series 30 reappears here.

Mixed
media action painting with military uniform pieces, burnt tires, and objects
on wood. (aka Stop Loss ) Some of the brushstrokes are actually small texts quoting things people say about new recruits ("Momma's little girl is all grown up now", "The discipline will do him good", etc) or motivations for enlisting ("Money for college", "Straighten my life out", "See the world", etc). These are obscured by clues that a roadside bomb has taken soldiers' lives. A "futility of war" monument.

painting and collage on wood. (aka Ashcroft's Fig Leaves) An anti-censorship piece, this recalls the censorship under John Ashcroft of the statue Spirit of Justice (off-site link) in Washington DC. Outlines show where fig leaves had been ---with the word "remove" stenciled in places.

This one even has many paired or tripled snippets with the same subject, showing how the factories made multiple copies of the same painting.”
